When it comes to motorcycles it can be a little intimidating to look for one, especially when there are so many types out there. The following information can help you get a better idea of the different kinds of motorcycles.

Motorcycle Types and Categories

Motorcycles have truly changed the way we commute and get around. They offer a faster and cheaper way to travel while providing the thrill of the open air and a more enhanced driving experience. However, not all motorcycles are the same. Most are specialized for the type of use they will be given and have specifications and characteristics that provide an advantage for some and a disadvantage for others. That is why it is so important that you select the right motorcycle for your needs.

Two-Stroke and Four-Stroke Motorcycle Engines

One of the first things you may want to know about is the type of engine that bikes have. Two stroke engines tend to be more powerful but also a lot louder. Due to the way this type of engine works, the oil gets burned along with the fuel and this creates combustion that produces more pollution which is why there is no longer very many. Four-stroke engines, however, are less noisy, more fuel efficient and less harmful to the environment and the most common nowadays.

Two-Stroke and Four-Stroke Lubrication Differences

One of the biggest differences that you need to know about when choosing between a two-stroke and four-stroke dirt bike is their maintenance. Two-stroke engines consume more fuel and oil and they require a special type of oil. Two-stroke oil comes in either in pre-mix form or injector safe variation. The pre-mix oil needs to be mixed with fuel before being inserted into the engine while the fuel injector safe oil can be inserted directly and the injector pump is in charge of pumping out the right amount of oil to be mixed with the fuel as needed. Four-stroke oil is similar to that of cars and comes in different oil grades.

Regardless of the Type of Motorcycle It Still Needs Quality Lubrication

Regardless of the type of motorcycle you own or the kind of engine it has, you need to take proper care of it and keep it well maintained. Checking the oil and other fluids is a vital part of your motorcycle care and you need to be sure that it has sufficient high-quality oil running at all times. AMSOIL has a complete line of the most reliable synthetic oil for all engine types.  If you need help looking for the right motorcycle oil for your bike be sure to contact Cerberus Systems, Inc. directly at (717) 658-1256. They will be glad to assist you in finding the ideal lubricant for your motorcycle´s needs.

The 3 Most Common Motorcycle Categories

  • Cruiser bikes.  Although there are several brands such as Excelsior-Henderson, Indian, and Harley-Davidson. It is the Harley Davidson´s that mostly define the cruiser category and large displacement V-twin engines. Choppers are the most common type of cruisers and are characterized by their high handlebars. These stylish American machines are favored by many but not all because their high handlebars can become quite tiring after long hours of riding. AMSOIL´s 20W-50 Synthetic V-Twin Motorcycle Oil is ideal for use in cruiser motorcycles that require 15W-50 or 20W-50 motorcycle oil.

  • Sports bikes. These are another specialized type of motorcycle that is used for reaching high speeds and great thrills. They tend to have a lightweight frame with a whole lot of power-performance packed into them. However, they are not exactly the most comfortable. The high footpegs push the legs closer to the body while the long reach handles force the rider to lean forward. This is fine at high speeds because the force of the wind helps carry the weight but it can be quite tiring at lower speeds to maintain this position.
  • Standard street bikes. These are the common city bikes that you may see every day on the streets. They are commonly known as roadsters or naked bikes and have a more comfortable position that is not too forward or leaned back. These tend to be ideal for beginners due to their lower price and more standard specifications.  For more information on how what to choose the right motorcycle for you and what to look for, read this article from the Nationwide blog.
